In the last decade the idea that if we really wish for something, visualize and try hard to achieve it, it will eventually come true. Many books were sold, promising that we can achieve anything.
I must disapprove however. In my opinion there are hurdles on some paths that are impassable. After trying to achieve something for years and seeing things get worse not better, we must accept our destiny. Not everything is meant to be.

In this era of haste, we often hear the medical recommendation to take smaller bites. And to chew longer. The point is that the mouth is the first stage of digestion. Chewing means that the food gets processed mechanically, but also biochemically by the digestive juice called saliva. If the food is handled correctly in the mouth, the stomach has it easier doing its job. Our stomach handles a lot of stress that is unavoidable these days. Thus there is no need to put more pressure on it. By taking smaller bites we also get full by less food and thus put even less pressure on our digestive system.

I have been wondering lately, why it is so hard to admit a mistake. Yes, of course, we have to face the consequences, like losing a friend or a job. By denying a mistake we hope to avoid it. And even if it is a tiny mistake without any serious ramifications, it is painful to admit we did something wrong. The feeling of guilt burns in our chest while taking on the responsibility. I have been observing for some time now, how people with integrity acquire important positions in society and they soon give up, because they get too heavily criticized. The ones with less integrity usually do not care much about criticism and keep their leading positions.
What can we do about it? At the first glance, nothing. Especially, if we do not work with people in leading positions. But what if there is a thing we can do anyway? I believe, each human being can add a little bit to the mosaic called a better future.
