Impressions from the Forest: The Caught Leaf

There is a roundtrip walking path around a large governmental estate. The estate is surrounded by a high wire fence. There is even a barbed wire at the top of it. The sight of it used to bother me at first, but not anymore. My husband and I now fully enjoy walking through a forest. It is a most magical place. The forest extends both behind the wire fence, which is on the left of the walking path, and there are also woods on the right side of the hiking route.

One thing we like to observe are tree leaves caught in the fence. To me it seemed thinkable that a leaf would fall from a tree and would get caught in the fence on one side. It would glide somehow into a hole in the wire pattern. But then we noticed leaves stuck into the fence on two sides, for example the tip of the leaf and the leaf stalk were both somehow pushed from one side of the wire fence to the other. My husband admired the wonders of nature no matter how hard to explain they were, while I insisted that in such cases it must have been a human being’s deed. My husband laughed heartily saying nobody would care to adorn the wire fence that way. I was a bit angry with my husband, but later pushed the thoughts away.

Until one time a miracle happened. The wind was blowing precisely toward the fence. We both saw how a leaf was pushed against the fence. It stayed up on the fence, because the wind would not cease. And then, finally, the wind pushed so hard that the leaf got stuck into the wire pattern on two sides. You can see that clearly in the photo.

Is it not amazing how sometimes we are so certain we are right and then all of a sudden we are proven wrong…

Take care,
